Employment Websites Merge to Create Powerful Career Resource

CareerShop.com enhances its offerings by teaming with high-tech job site PlanetResume

November, 1999 – Orlando – CareerShop.com, one of the Internet’s top employment-related websites, has joined forces with PlanetResume.com, an IT-focused website with presence in Boston, the Carolinas, San Francisco and Washington, DC. Combining CareerShop.com’s national brand with PlanetResume’s regional office focus promises an expanded customer base for both companies as well as aid in selling new multimedia recruitment and company branding products, such as CareerTV, HotChili Technology and Buzz Software, to national and local clients and customers. This merger follows the union of CareerShop.com and another IT-centered website, SelectJobs.com, earlier this year.

The CareerShop.com site allows individuals to take advantage of career enhancement and job searching opportunities and helps employers locate the best available talent. Job seekers can post résumés and search job listings for free and employers have access to memberships that include do-it-yourself online recruiting, customizable résumé management systems and custom Internet-based recruitment advertising services.

CareerShop.com is also the producer of CareerTV, the first national broadcast program designed exclusively to address employment, recruiting and job-search topics. The show, which premiered October 31, 1999, at Noon EST on NBC’s PAX TV Network, airs weekly reaching approximately 100 million households with information-rich programming content designed to maximize the career-matching process for both recruiters and prospective employees. The show’s segments present information on which technologies are important, which industries or jobs are hot, company profiles, corporate features, technology updates and virtual job fairs.

“The opportunity to work face-to-face is very important in extending and personalizing our communications with CareerTV audiences and in building employer brands. PlanetResume’s large local sales staffs will provide this support, enabling CareerShop to work one-on-one with clients and customers,” said Jim McArdle, president and CEO for CareerShop.com.

PlanetResume.com takes a unique approach to the Internet recruiting market by offering client companies access to a large résumé database of local candidates in the technology area. It also offers a personalized approach, including one-to-one training and service representatives who perform the searches for clients, that distinguishes the site from other Internet recruitment tools.

“PlanetResume.com is excited about merging with CareerShop/CareerTV because it enables us to provide our clients additional value through the power of CareerTV, coupled with the reach of CareerShop.com,” said Dan Miller, president of PlanetResume.com. “We’re happy to be a part of the CareerShop family and to help drive the convergence of Internet recruiting and TV.”

Together, the merged companies expect to generate revenues in excess of $14 million in the year 2000. The new alliance now has offices in seven cities, servicing over 1,000 clients. Current office locations include Boston, Charlotte/Raleigh, Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Orlando, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. Year 2000 expansion plans include offices in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia.
